Character vs Competency


I have always hired people based on the above 2 Cs. Sometimes, I hire the right people with both Cs. Sometimes I hire the wrong people without the Cs. You see, people can tell you all sorts of things in interviews and stories that make you believe that they have whatever that you need for them to do the job. And sometimes they really do have it. However, a lot of people get too comfortable and stop working hard to do what is necessary to do better and achieve more. They let their ego and overconfidence to get the better of them. I honestly and sincerely believe that people can be good people. BUT THEY NEED TO STOP CHEATING THEMSELVES. We need to learn to really want to make a difference with the right moral values and integrity. I will respect you more if you own up to your mistakes instead of always blaming, complaining and giving excuses. These are 3 cardinal sins for me. For me, once you break the trust I have for you, it will be hard for me to work with you ever again. So please work hard to preserve the trust as it takes 3 years for you earn my trust. It will only take 3 seconds to lose it. You may have competency but if you do not have the right character, you will not survive here, you will not survive anywhere.
